Do you sew your own garments? Do you love to follow along with other makers on social media? Are you, like me, greatly inspired by all the patterns being designed and sewn by independent sewists all over the world? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then join me as we sew an indie garment pattern together! I will be choosing an indie pattern for us to sew together:
This month we will be conquering our knit fabric fears as we sew the indie fave; the Toaster Sweater from Sewhouse Seven The toaster sweater has been around for several years now but it continues to be one of the most made patterns in the indie pattern universe because of it’s simplicity in both style and sewing. This is a great pattern for knit newbies or novices, and I KNOW it will become a wardrobe staple in your closet. (I will post a link below where you can get and print the pattern pieces and sewing instructions.)
This is an advanced beginner level pattern, so to take this class you must understand how to use a sewing machine and read a garment pattern. You are welcome to bring your own machine or use one at the city sewing room.
What to bring:
- fabric : Knits can be a bit tricky, so make that when you’re purchasing fabric it has 2 or 4-way stretch with at least 20% stretch around the width of the body.
- pattern : Make sure to purchase and tape together your pattern before attending the event. (Trust me - you won’t regret getting it out of the way!) Get the pattern in size 0-20 here and in size 16-34 curvy here
You may also shop the Maker’s Mart at the City Sewing Room the evening of the event. Their fabric is donated from the community and there is always something unique. (plus most is only $2 a pound so you can plan to get enough for a few bags!).
If we do not meet the required minimum number of participants for a class at the City Sewing Room (3) I will let you know 24 hours before the event via email and will refund your class fee. Due to this, please send in your administration fee no later than 48 hours before the class.
The cost of this event is $30 and limited to 6 participants. Register for the event by filling out the form below and sending in your registration payment through PayPal or Venmo.
