If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then join me as we sew an indie garment pattern together!

Join me this month at Black Hole Studio as we sew the perfect layering piece for fall: the Wavy Quilted Vest from Matchy Matchy Sewing Club! There are tons of fun possibilities with this one: make it patchwork, make it denim, make it with or without ties, make it scrappy with fun binding….the options are numerous. And to top it all off, the pattern is FREE so you can make this one with purely stash fabrics for a cheap and fun project.

We will be working through the pattern together, but you are welcome to work faster than the class pace if you feel comfortable. I want everyone to feel included and be able to participate with the group according to their comfort level.

The pattern is listed as “intermediate” due to the quilting and curved bias biding used. In order to participate you must have completed a garment following a sewing pattern and be comfortable using a sewing machine.

Sewing elements to learn with this one:

-Basic quilting techniques
- Bias Binding Techniques: both traditional & sewing on a curve
- Creating your own bias binding (optional)

You will have access to cutting tables as well as cutting rulers, cutting tools, and a variety of sewing notions. You are free to use one of the studio sewing machines, or bring your own.

What to bring:

- fabric : The pattern calls for a lightweight woven fabric - cottons, linens, or even pre-quilted fabric would work great for this one. The amount of fabric needed will depend on your fabric width & pattern size; check the pattern details to get an idea of the amount you need. Make sure to wash your fabric before you get to class. (No one wants their finished garment shrinking!!)

- Cotton Batting : You can purchase at a fabric store, Michael’s or amazon

- Notions : Matching sewing thread

- Pattern : Please bring your printed pattern to the class ready to use. Find the pattern HERE

- Sewing Machine: There are 3 studio machines up for grabs, but you are welcome to bring your own machine. Details on how to reserve a studio machine are listed below.

Feel free to bring any food or drink to share

If we do not meet at least a 25% participant level for the class (2) I will let you know 24 hours before the event via email and will refund your class fee. Due to this, please send in your administration fee no later than 48 hours before the class.
