Do you sew your own garments? Do you love to follow along with other makers on social media? Are you, like me, greatly inspired by all the patterns being designed and sewn by independent sewists all over the world? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then join me as we sew an indie garment pattern together!
**************
Join me this month at Black Hole Studio as we sew the newly released Camille Chemise pattern from indie designer Madswick. Make it as a top to pair with jeans, or a floaty fancy dress for the last warm days of summer - this pattern has all the details we dream about. From the square neck trend of the moment, to the banded poof sleeves, to the pleated skirt, this one will be a SPECIAL piece in your wardrobe.
We will be working through the pattern together, but you are welcome to work faster than the class pace if you feel comfortable. I want everyone to feel included and be able to participate with the group according to their comfort level.
The pattern is listed as “advanced beginner” but it definitely has a lot of techniques that will be new to the newbie sewist. To take this class you must understand basic garment construction techniques and be comfortable using a sewing machine.
You will have access to cutting tables as well as cutting rulers, cutting tools, and a variety of sewing notions. You are free to use one of the studio sewing machines, or bring your own.
Sewing elements to learn with this one:
sewing buttonholes
attaching buttons
gathering
inserting sleeves
bias binding
slip stitching
hemming
creating your own trim (optional)
What to bring:
- fabric : The pattern calls for a lightweight woven fabric - this is the time to use the floaty linens, cotton lawns, or lightweight cotton blends. The amount of fabric needed will depend on your fabric width & pattern size. Make sure to wash your fabric before you get to class. (No one wants their finished garment shrinking!!)
- notions : matching sewing thread, bias binding (check the pattern for amounts), buttons, optional trim
- pattern : Please bring your printed pattern to the class ready to use. Find the pattern HERE
- sewing machine: There are 3 studio machines up for grabs, but you are welcome to bring your own machine. Details on how to reserve a studio machine are listed below.
Feel free to bring any food or drink to share
If we do not meet at least a 25% participant level for the class (2) I will let you know 24 hours before the event via email and will refund your class fee. Due to this, please send in your administration fee no later than 48 hours before the class.
The cost of this event is $35 and limited to 4 participants. Register for the event by filling out the form below and sending in your registration payment through PayPal or Venmo.

Make sure to note in the event registration form if you wish to use one of the 3 available sewing machines at Black Hole Studio - it is first come first serve. I will let you know ahead of the class if your machine request can’t be fulfilled.
